it's a cold night here in the city of angels. if you ever visit in winter your skin might be surprised by how chilly it can feel. today our high was 59. which...i must say, thrilled me.
my crocheted blanket is now 3 inches wide. my heart grows warm and thumps harder the more i work on it. my enthusiasm, naturally unrelated to my skill. i posted a hipstamatic photo on facebook if you wanna see.

didn't feel like fussing with the big nikon this weekend and i went off and forgot the little fuji so i used my ipad! works great in a pinch especially if you have a photo app. the photo apps really made a grainy pic sort of spectacular.
i printed these mosaics out 7x7 inches for my inspiration bulletin board because the colors make me happy. they'd also be cool cut into strips 3 pics long in a photobookesque style.
back to the oscars now and my crochet! pics of that coming v.v. soon. prepare to be underwhelmed.

My crochet guru took me on the most fantastic & delicious tour of Somis, California today. It was such a luxury to be carted around in her chariot while I sat spellbound in the passenger seat with the window down.
We both went a little wild over this stand of poinsettia trees. Picture ruffly scarlet pom poms swaying above your head in the most turquoise sky imaginable. I used my iPad camera set to hipstamatic app to get these shots. Lovesick.
I arrived yesterday late afternoon. Joyce made supper. We had St. Germain cocktails, and stayed up late chattering. Such fun!
I learned an easy crochet stitch and am off the training wheels and on my own tonight. I think I can do it.
We stopped for strawberries the size of small apples early in the afternoon. So good!
I picked oranges and lemons from groves along side the road, stopped for nuts in Somis, and enjoyed our meanderings down Ventura county highways and byways. A special Saturday with a new friend.

My friend/neighbor sent me these pics of the cat I know as Tom. She calls him something else. MikeyMike. As you can see he's a popular boy. And very happy at her place from the looks of it!
She is spoiling him rotten with special cat grub. I guess an old Tom can't have too many admirers now can he?
I loved reading your comments and I read some to Tom too. I was pretty sure you'd wanna see his close ups....

another weekend getaway planned. but only overnight. leaving tomorrow after school and heading west. crochet slumber party here i come!

i am 10 minutes away from being COMPLETELY finished with my latest travel journal. but i'll probably take another week to finish. i excel at moving in slow motion. la di da di da.
especially in winter.
slow, slower, and slowest. those are my top speeds. unless i'm being chased. which. you know. i'm not right now.
i'm going to really enjoy opening up each page of my san cristobal de las casas travel journal in another decade or so and unfolding all the parts. and i probably won't care how long it took me to finish.
say hi to TOM. he's been hanging around since buck took off for the sweet hereafter. buck used to do all the spraying around the outside of moss cottage environs. now TOM does it. he likes to sit outside and meow. i don't feed him. i used to scare him off, but he's very persistent. since i discovered he's not a fighter i tolerate him. wyatt & corky were scared of him, but now they just sit and stare at each him. then stare at me to see if i'm staring at him. TOM is lonely. i've started talking to him in a cat voice. but don't think for a minute that i'm going to start feeding him or letting him inside. no way!
he is kinda cute though. in a scrappy ginger cat sort of way.

i'm home!
not only did i forget my camera adaptor i also brought my ipod charger instead of my iPAD charger. hah. it does sort of work. but i don't recommend it.
i motored home in the early afternoon through pastoral scenes of old california. the hwy 150 route through the mountains & valleys is quite simply, breathtaking. breathstealing.
scenes i inadequately captured on my camera. the photo above is actually just a few miles from the cabin on hwy 33.
i also saw a lovely heron when i first arrived on friday at sundown. he was standing on a rock in the creek just below me. i watched him for awhile - until he flew off. amazing to see such a BIG bird take flight. i took a picture in my mind.
the love shack has only slightly less square feet than moss cottage. so i feel right at home puttering around inside of its smallness.
i ventured out onto the suspension bridge near the cabin this time. but only a little ways.
spent a lot of good time listening to the creek. and reading. and writing. and stargazing.
i'm sorry it's over so soon. but not sorry to be home with catboy & catgirl.

but right now i need to finish packing the getaway car. tomorrow when the last school bell rings i'm squealing tires out of downtown and...
heading off to my woodsy cabin hidey hole for some reading & writing & resting & creekside stargazing. watch for my smoke signals.

i enjoyed alcove and will probably return to try something less spartan, but i won't sit inside again. the tables are for dolls, you have to wait in a line to order your grub, and water is self-serve and comes in plastic cups.
the ambiance is charming though!

i'll be heading out on a scouting expedition a week ahead of the other moss sister. she has less time off than i do.
this will be my hidey hole until she arrives. then we're off to a different town.
this wee house is perched on a hill. from the looks of it a steep hill. i better lay off the maple bacon donuts between now and then.
there are 2 french balconys in this little house. i can't wait to stargaze.
of course it rains A LOT here. constantly. i think i'll get one of those clear raincoat jumper things, a big dome umbrella, and some red & white striped rubber boots. what say you?

i attached the elastic strap on the back cover. voila! a fine & dandy idea.
i get those every once in a while.
like for example the idea i had to try out another one of the 20 breakfast places tomorrow. i will attempt to order something slightly more civilized.
but i make no promises.
will one of you PLEASE teach me how to crochet so i sit out on my porch and make THESE? please. huh? will you? Joyce?
wyatt knows how but he won't teach me.

1. ate maple bacon donut. with pulled pork hash. at one of the 20 breakfast places i spoke of yesterday. {more on this later!}
2. added more photos to travel journal
3. stared at stolen kiss who is blooming right now. she blooms dark in winter, light in summer.
4. made goo goo eyes at hot pink geranium in between words with friends games
5. added hot pink paint to travel journal
6. watched a flock of birds in the pink western sky {just now} while dashing out back to see moonrise in eastern sky
7. decided for the millionth time that the world is pretty and i'm glad i get to live in it. very glad.
8. also. my entire house smells like freesia.

I posted an article on facebook last week about 20 breakfast places to try in LA. My friend Lewis & I decided to start knocking them off. One by one.
except...i don't think this one was on the list. oh well. we added it. took these with my crappity crap camera and drew on them with SKETCHBOOK PRO app for ipad. I have a few art apps, but like SP the best.

as much as i am adoring instagram and all the other fun camera apps on my ipad, my favorite kind of photo in my travel journal remains the unadorned. simple. clear. just a small bit of brightening if it's needed. no major overhauls.
no filters or textures to muddle up the image as i saw it on that day. through the eye of my camera.
all that silver gleam and sugar sparkle. one of my bestest trip photos from san cristobal de las casas.
